"We believe that a lack of information breeds prejudice and apathy. Conversely, learning is the key to transformation"

Our Ideas

Opening Minds, Changing Hearts

AJAR believes that through reflection and learning, grassroots communities and their leaders, can make marked progress to build peace, improve lives and rebuild communities broken by conflict. AJAR is committed to walk together with these communities, and to help them connect with decision-makers in order to articulate their needs. This approach is based on an understanding that post-conflict peace-building may take more than one generation, and needs multiple strategies and approaches.

The founders of AJAR have reflected on their experiences working in different conflict zones. Conflicts are multi-level but the majority of work is done at the level of senior leadership and political solutions. However, often the missing piece is detailed programming to help repair the effects of conflict at the local level. These effects may be emotional, physical, social and political. This will include, for example, high levels of trauma, a lack of access to markets as a result of the war, a ‘falling behind’ in the education of children etc.

In the next three years, AJAR is focusing on two main goals:
·   To Increase the ability of poor/ vulnerable communities to social justice, development and human rights

·   to provide long-term support to increase capacity and stamina of local leaders, grassroots communities, and human rights defenders in the fulfillment of basic human rights in poor / vulnerable communities
