The founders of AJAR have reflected on their experiences working in different conflict zones. Conflicts are multi-level but the majority of work is done at the level of senior leadership and political solutions. However, often the missing piece is detailed programming to help repair the effects of conflict at the local level. These effects may be emotional, physical, social and political. This will include, for example, high levels of trauma, a lack of access to markets as a result of the war, a ‘falling behind’ in the education of children etc.
